How Detox Retreats Benefit Your Health

What kind of bell does someone ring if they'd say 'detox'? You'd think immediately of drugs, right? Not necessarily, detox retreats are becoming popular. Celebrities often cite periodic detoxes are the source of their quick weight loss, glowing skin, and boundless energy.

Somehow, it does make sense, doesn't it? Because we live in a world of processed foods, plastics, air pollution, and chemicals in just about everything.

Body detox is a form of healing your body from inside by cleansing the inner organs such as the liver, the kidney, and the guts. We have all heard about juice diets, raw foods and colon cleanses. The proponents of these programs will tell you they never felt better in their lives and there is some medical evidence to support this.

Besides light exercise such as yoga, detox retreats offer natural therapies, juice fasts, all-raw-diets, and colonics. They swear that you will not go hungry. They make every effort for raw fruits, vegetables, and sprouted grains look appealing and taste good.

The main aim of a detox is to cleanse your liver, the organ that filters your blood. The diet combined with saunas and hydrotherapy will literally sweat the toxins out of your body. Massage, reflexology, colonics and salt glows are also employed.

Especially, those who underwent chemotherapy often report feeling much better after a detox. You may not embrace the entire program. It makes sense somewhat, but do you want to give up Big Macs forever? My father, for instance would have thought it utter nonsense to pay to sweat and eat what he called rabbit food.

If you decide to go on a detox retreat, you can chose between different programs. They are usually for 6, ten or 14 days. Some are weekend programs as well. If you're unsure, try a weekend before taking the plunge entirely.
